About Lyubomir Petrov
Hello! I’m Lyubomir Petrov, a developer-turned-product-leader with over 20 years in tech, now on a sabbatical to explore, create, and share. This blog is my space to log the journey—whether it’s tinkering with small businesses, building tech projects, or simply learning new things with a focus on balance and personal growth.
My Journey So Far
My career began as a developer, diving deep into the world of web, backend, and frontend development. Over the last two decades, I’ve worked with a variety of technologies and languages, including JavaScript (since the early IE5.5 days), PHP (dating back to PHP3), and just about every type of database you can think of. Here are a few highlights:
• Developer for 20 Years: I started as a hands-on coder and grew with the industry, continuously adapting and expanding my skill set. From web development and mobile apps to managing cloud servers, my experience spans across many technical domains, allowing me to bring a holistic view to my projects.
• Technical Project Manager: I stepped into project management with Provision Sofia BBDO, overseeing 20+ PHP developers. I managed resource allocation, optimized team workflows, and led Lean/Agile initiatives, all while handling 20 active projects. This role sharpened my ability to balance priorities and drive team performance.
• Lead Developer at MEGA: I joined MEGA as a Senior Developer and later as Team Lead, contributing to a platform now trusted by over 316 million users globally. Here, I focused on security, scalability, and performance, delivering a robust service that exemplifies privacy and user experience. My work on MEGA’s web client is available on GitHub, showcasing a part of my journey in building large-scale, user-centric applications.
• Head of Product at Shelly.com: For the past three years, I’ve overseen the lifecycle of complex IoT products, leading a cross-functional team through each stage of development. From ideation to launch, my work at Shelly has involved guiding teams of developers, designers, and engineers to create smart home solutions that are both scalable and user-focused. My passion for building products that solve real-world problems is a constant driver in my role.
Now – I’ve decided to take time for what truly matters: taking care of my family, myself, and my health. This journey is about finding balance, and I’m excited to share what I learn along the way.
Why This Blog?
After years in tech and product management, I’m taking a sabbatical to focus on my own growth and explore projects that truly inspire me. Here, I’ll document every step, sharing what I learn and the insights that come along the way. This isn’t the usual “get-rich-quick” approach. Instead, I’m aiming for sustainable, thoughtful growth—challenging the hustle culture with a balanced, mindful approach. Here’s a bit of what you’ll find:
• Small Business Experiments: With experience in entrepreneurship, from managing a SaaS platform to building e-commerce solutions, I’ll be sharing what works (and what doesn’t) in a sustainable business approach.
• Tech and Tinkering: From Node.js projects to exploring new tools, I’ll share code, tools, and resources with fellow geeks and makers.
• Mental Health and Personal Growth: It’s not just about projects—I’ll also be reflecting on ways to keep a balanced mindset, improve decision-making, and nurture creativity without burnout.
• Lessons in Success and Failure: This sabbatical is about experimenting. I’m here to share the wins, the fails, and the lessons in between.
Let’s tinker together!
